Private Voice, to start.

[personal profile] notrosecolored 2018-04-04 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ He gives it a few hours once the announcement goes up, and the file appears in his room. He locks the file safely in a drawer in a filing cabinet, without opening or reading it. He will, but not before he talks to her.

Which means, while he gives himself time to finish his gym shift and her to... process, if she needs it, once that time's past, he gets in touch. ]

I assume you saw the announcement. You want to swing by here, have me come to you, or meet up on deck?

[ Options. Where they meet is her call. They are going to talk though, dammit. ]

Mine's fine. Come on by, the coffee will be going by the time you get here.

[ And not only will it be, it is - though of course not finished brewing yet. ]

[ He gets up and opens the door when she knocks, and is in the process of opening it when she starts to announce herself. ]

At least you're not adding shiny to that descriptor. [ He's glad he's added a 'living room' type space with a couch, love-seat and a couple of chairs, even if it comes with a desk in one corner. The year he spent with nothing but a bedroom and bathroom would have made this awkward. ] I'll get you added to the access filter after we talk.

It means you will be able to come into my cabin without me opening it for you most of the time. You can always leave when you please, either way. Barring the barge pulling some bullshit.

[ Look, specific is important here and if he'sin the midst of sex, he is changing that filter and she can knock. But her having access to get into his cabin independent of the barge network is important enough to him to take the risk that comes with it. ]

What I want to talk about is actually what you want to talk about.

[ It... makes more sense in his head, he realizes, and explains. ]

I have your file. I wanted to talk to you before I read it.

I want you to talk to me, rather than letting the Admiral's file do all the talking for you.

[ That's agreement of a sort, but he follows it up with a slight head shake. ]

I don't know anything you haven't told me. [ Not from the file, and not from Len. ]

[ Talking is definitely the hard part - and it's the hard part for Scott, too. The good news is, that listening is pretty damned easy.

What isn't so easy is putting that information into context with things she's told him - and that Cold has casually mentioned, because nothing Cold ever says comes with any actual information. ]

No.

[ That's the easy part. Reading her file will help with a lot of it, but things she's told him actually answers a few questions - like her problems with tenses and pronouns - already. And he's certainly heard (and lived) some damned weird shit.

Then a pause, while he organizes his thoughts, a bit. ]

Three things. One: Not my boyfriend. Two: Never, ever assume he tells me anything. Three: Doesn't this theoretically good guy also run a private prison?

[ There is only so far he's going to wade into her stuff before he does read the file, but seriously. His impression of Flash is terrible. ]

Private prisons.... [ He trails off, because of all the words he can use none of them are quite what he wants and most of them have for letters, and....

He starts again.]

I realize this is ironic coming from me, but private prisons are never a good idea, or meant to do anything but act as either a warehouse or death trap. They're meant to make people disappear into.

And, yeah, friends with benefits seems like a pretty safe label to slap on it. [ If you feel the need to label it. He does, but mostly he pretends otherwise because Cold's ridiculous. ]

I don't know. I'm really bad at ...reverence toward power, which is what most references to hell - or heaven for that matter - hinge on.

There is some amusement in the deal with the devil aspect, though.

[ That is more than fair. ] I wish I was one of the wardens on-board who see the system he's running as broken, but stay to help people and refuse payment.

I'm not. ...Not only am I not, I don't trust those people.

I miss... the luxury of being able to believe that right is right, wrong is wrong, and to believe there is no situation in which I would sacrifice my morals for getting shit done.

[ He is going to be honest with her, if it kills them both. It's only fair; she has her file. ]

My original deal, when I was Clark's warden, was to repower a bunch of people in my own world. That deal's been accomplished. My second deal isn't as important, but the Admiral still has what I need to make the most of the opportunity the first one gave me.

You might want to steer clear of Steve Rogers.

My deal right now is to keep my son from dying. [ Maybe, and there's some confusion there. It's mostly an excuse, anyway. ]

[ Scott tries to think of an answer that doesn't involve his history with another version of the man, because that wouldn't be fair.

He also doesn't think there is enough time to go through the entire list of things Steve has done to make Scott insane over their shared years on-board.

He needs a synopsis.

That isn't a list of immature insults or venting his spleen.]

He refuses to learn. [ that narrowly, narrowly missed being 'he's stupid'. ]
