Good evening, Caitlin. May I ask you a question?

I've noticed that a number of people on board have jobs, including several inmates.

[Pause.]

Do you think I should get a job?

No. I'm not even sure what's available. Is there a list?

[Pause.]

Maybe we'd better see the list before making any decisions.

[The opposite, for once: it's true that he likes both places, but equally true that he has zero interest in being employed by either one. He's sure he can't go back to being any kind of police up here, but there has to be something he finds at least a little engaging.

The truth is, he's starting to tire of being alone with his thoughts. Or, more accurately: he's starting to get bored.]

Yes, of course. I understand.

[No, that's not how this is supposed to work, not at all. He mentioned that inmates have jobs and asked if he should get one. She was supposed to say yes, pick something suitable, and tell him to do it. This isn't supposed to be about what he wants, or what he'd enjoy.

He can't say it's like she doesn't even know him, because he's pretty sure she knows exactly what she's doing. And the most annoying part of all is that there's absolutely nothing he can do about it.

Sigh. Well played, Caitlin. At least she gave him some language he can use with the other wardens, so he doesn't have to admit pretend this was his idea in the first place.]

Understood. I'll keep you posted.
